My mom always had 4 Runners. The suspension on those things were always shitty, especially if you were in the back. The newer models may be better, but the older ones were terrible.

This is one thing Toyota won't be able to remedy unless(until) they do away with the solid rear axle. My Xterra had SRA and leaf springs and riding in the second row was like being in a school bus again.

The new ones have a soft ride....much better than Pre-2010 4runners. If anything, it's a bit wallowy without the kDSS package.
