Lb recruiting the past 4 years?

I was coming for some info as I haven't really kept up with recruiting until last year. On the depth chart this year our most promising LB's with most potential appear to be Beck and White. Both were recruited to play a different position weren't they. We have Duke who will hopefully be a solid player but I don't think he has the skill set to be a true stud at LB. Have we missed on a lot of guys in the past or just not signed near the number of LB prospects we should've?

both
and our "stud" 5* heir apparent to Beckwith turned out to be a bust

Don't understand the down votes just looking at the depth this year and the future depth and it doesn't look like a bright spot. Just wanted others opinions. We will be super young there next year. Hopefully D white becomes a leader and we get Moses.

Chavis is a horrible recruiter, really hurt us at LB. A&M is starting to see it now too how he just puts in no effort there.
Glad to have the guys we have on board now because they are recruiting their asses off. Sucks Fowler got flipped on us but Aranda is here to make sure stuff like this doesnt happen anymore and we fill our needs at LB with guys who excel in his system. We are in on a handful of elite LBs this year and they are very picky and choosey right now. Fagan is a guy they could have probably landed should they have chose to push but thought after seeing him in person this summer he couldn't be a contributor in this 3-4.
They will get in a good LB haul between guys like Queen, Moses, Allen, Leroy, Johnston, Chaisson, Ignont, Jones and Swilling.

We need balanced classes; not 12 WRs and 0 LBs.

We recruit based on need. If you need 5 or 6 DL and 4 or 5 LBs then you recruit that many. This class will be extremely heavy on the front 7. Probably looking at:
2 QB
1-2 RB
1 FB
0-1 TE
4 OL
3 WR
5-6 DL
4-5 LB
2-3 S
2 CB
Unfortunately, we needed more quality linebackers than we got the last handful of years. Garrett being a bust and Melvin Jones moving to offense (and then leaving) really set us back at LB where Aranda and co. have had to go all out recruiting there from day 1.

There's also Louis and Feist in there somewhere. Chavis sucked at recruiting and developing but we did bring in some lbs who were thought to be good recruits. Garrett being a bust really hurt.
For the first 2 or 3 years there were constant posts about "Chavis is a linebacker guru--I'm not worried about the lbs".

This falls on Miles, as he's just reactionary, and I will give him credit for fixing the Defensive coaching/recruiting as it stands now....But why did it take so long to fix? He's a good guy, but his loyalty to a fault has lead to a lot of deficiencies over the years.

2012
we recruited 6 LBers in 2012, but 2 transferred away and Feist never really did anything
Kwon and Debo were great and Louis was a contributor at least

What's even worse is that Riley wasn't offered until very very late. Glad to have him, but he certainly could not have come to LSU.

he's a horrible recruiter but the aggies don't care. they were desperate and he's actually helping them out with coaching alone. meanwhile, both their DL and their LB recruiting has not been good. I doubt Chavis cares as he inherited a very good DL and has a contract that will probably carry him to retirement. if not, i'm sure he will be offered another 3 year deal, esp if the aggies do well this year.

When you factor in Devin White, last years LB haul was great.
Devin White
Michael Divinity
Rahssan Thornton
Sci Martin
Andre Anthony
That group with the potential 2017 LB class of Patrick Queen, Dylan Moses, Chris Allen, and K'Lavon Chaisson

Dont forget preferred walk-on Layton Garnett.
Aranda liked him as he knows the type (White, slower, TRUE LINEBACKER, with a good sense of how to play the position). I expect him to be in the mix in a couple of years. Especially if the other linebackers are super athletic, as it appears we are building towards. Having a "quarterback" on defense is important too.

Speaking to the OT's, because that is probably one of the toughest positions to recruit. Can be the biggest crap shoot on the prospects' growth/maturity and development.
Guys like Whitworth and Lael (or Cam) don't just grow on trees.

I think we've been forced to do that. Not a good way to make a living though.

WOW! Really? smh
That thinking is what kept Beckwith off the field too long. Being super athletic and intelligent are not mutually exclusive. Even though there are some who believe or want to believe that to be the case.

There's a lot of critics on this board. They don't critic the subject matter but the post. Kinda like idealists sitting in their ivory towers.
