I wouldn't classify them as great, but Something Corporate to Jack's Mannequin was a pretty substantial and successful transition and not that common for the era/genres.

I was born in 1971, do I count as growing up in the 80s? shite, the whole audience for "Nevermind" was people between the ages of 16-26 in 1991. They all grew up in the 80s.

I don't pretend that they were the greatest, but Humble Pie deserves mention. Steve Marriott had prior success in the Small Faces.
