This is obviously taped. It doesn't take a genius to know this

Stupid fricking waste of a show. Who gives two flips if mathew berry does all 28 hours. Not much fantasy info. Not wasting my time on this shite show.

Every year for the last couple you idiots who play PPR try to push this and every year the stats come out from all the big sites and the majority on every site is still standard leagues.

Take your own advice and stop awarding points for a 0 yd reception that's worth 16% of a TD, dumbfrick.

Standard sucks, old man

I got excited they're doing a live draft but it's a shitty 8 team league

how dare people manipulate categories in a fake game to make it more fun

Kenny Mayne just beat Bobby Flay in cooking

It doesn't make any sense.

The logic of manipulating categories in an attempt to make fantasy football more fun is great and I'm all for it. Bonuses for long TDs is a great example cause all TDs aren't created equal. Just like all catches aren't created equal. Which is why ppr is dumb. Give me a logical explanation as to why a 10 yard run from a RB equals is equal to a 0 yd catch from a player. Go ahead, I'll wait.

You really think the fantasy empire that is espn would do a 28 hour special on a 10 team standard if it still wasn't what the masses preferred and played? Can you not understand that?
Posted on 8/16/16 at 10:52 pm to Broken Ear Glen
It wasn't even 10 team it was 8 team

Hardly anyone I know plays Standard.

there really isnt a logical reason based on this one specific, rare example of a player catching a ball for zero yards. Keyword: rare.
Generally a player catching a pass is a good thing. Cause after all a RB that catches passes is better than a RB that doesnt. and a WR that catches more balls than another WR makes him more valuable.
In the end, my thing with PPR is it makes the player pool larger, making more players relevant, which in turn, makes this GAME more fun to play for everyone.
and ideally in the future, PPR will be replaced by something like point per 1st down or something of that sort.

It has also become a passing oriented league, and catching a pass takes skill. RBs and TEs on average have caught 1k+ more passes last season compared to RBs/TEs in 1999. So it opens up the player pool to guys who normally arent as relevant in standard league, yet play prominent roles in their teams' offense at the NFL level as a valuable players who can catch passes and keep their offenses on the field
Also, guy going 6 for 60 in a standard league gets rewarded marginally, 6pts. A guy going 6 for 60 in a PPR league gets reward for moving the chains, 12 pts. It means something in the NFL game and should be reflected in fantasy
As for the whole reception for zero yards thing, you are talking how many plays in the 35,000 or so ran in the NFL all year? And in regards to traditional standard scoring, why are QBs rewarded 4 points for pass TD and WR and RB 6? Just because that's the way it used to be doesn't mean it shouldnt be tweaked.
As for ESPN, this is the same company that pulls it's data from leagues where guys like Marshawn Lynch and Calvin Johnson are 2% owned right now

Yea your work or family league is probably gonna be 10 team standard, those are the people who pop in and watch ESPN for a couple minutes fantasy insight. Your more serious players are probably just as knowledgeable as those ESPN guys and probably aren't going to ESPN for insight.

Now this just in a vacuum I can understand. Making the player pool larger. Don't agree with it but I understand it. It's almost necessary in a 12 man. I'm in a 12 man ppr and it's needed for injuries and just lack of quality players across 12 teams.
However,

Making players more relevant that shouldn't be relevant, i.e. Theo Riddick and Danny Woodhead who compile empty stats, doesn't make it fun IMO. It further reduces the importance of the draft which I think makes it less fun.

what is an empty stat & how do you make up determination?
is it emptier than Jeremy Hill being a terrible RB but scoring 11 TDs?
or the randomness that was Jameis Winston scoring 6 TDs on QB Sneaks?
I mean both of those guys caught 80 balls. That means they were on the field a lot and useful to their team.

how does it reduce the importance of the draft? You still have to pick good players and there is still a ton of luck involved.

PPR is a fine format for people who don't/can't spend a ton of time on research and absorbing analysis and projections. It's much simpler to draft players when catches are scored and develop a draft strategy, even though the scoring has kind of done that for you. Plus, more points and higher scores make the game seem more exciting and, quite honestly, that your team is better than it actually is.
It's a format designed for the most casual fantasy players and that's okay. It's just a game for most, as it probably should be.

I don't personally know any "serious" players who play in any Non-PPR leagues and it's been like that for awhile. PPR is the much better game, clearly.
