My coworker's son wants him to take him to see it. I haven't seen it yet so I figured the best place to ask...

i believe the worst part of the film is an exploding head, and even then i don't think there was any blood. your coworker's son is probably watching worse things on the internet.

LINK
There are plenty of websites like the link above that break down various scenes that lead to the rating. Some even have a religious spin, if you are into that.
8-10 for a PG-13 movie just really depends on your parenting style. I doubt there is anything that will leave the kid scarred or cause them to act out. However, based on the description it does sound a bit mature for a kid that age. Yet, I suspect most parents these days tend to be more lax and would take their child to see it anyway because "they'll see way worse on YouTube."

There's more violent shite on TV.

If he wants to know who Margot Robbie is then let him watch the director's cut of Wolf of Wall Street :jump1:

Ok, but is he letting his kid watch that?

It's barely any different from a Marvel movie minus the slightly worse language (which isn't even that bad). The Villains look like they're made of asphalt. You're fine.

Idk, just trying to give some perspective. I can't remember anything too shocking/gory in the movie, but that might be because it was so shitty that none of it stuck.

I would say the content is fine for an 8 year old, but what 8 year old could even begin to comprehend Suicide Squad? It's going to go way over his head

I know, right? he loves all of the superhero movies, superman, etc and has seen them all from what I hear. Not sure what to tell him - may let him look at this page
Seriously, thanks to all who have answered!

I wouldn't let him see it. I don't want him to become jaded about movies in general.

Yeah I think most 5 year olds could understand what's going on.

I would not bring a 8 year old.
Mine is 13 and I am still debating it.

This is a standard PG-13 action movie. Give me a break.
