it is a fairly realistic portrayal of a marriage. I like that, but maybe some people don't want realism like that in a sitcom.

I think the whole show was pretty realistic, albeit hyperbolic. Anyone who has worked in an office setting has worked with someone like most of the characters. The show just made the characters a little more extreme than real life. The socially unaware boss, the drab guy there just to punch the clock(Stanley), the cold hyper-sensitive bitch(Angela), the brown noser(Andy), the overachieving dork(Dwight), etc.

Jim and Pam were just the normal ones the viewer was supposed to relate more to.

Yeah, I don't really get that.

I didn't either. Pretty sure it was someone here a while back that posted it. I didn't see the season he was mainly talking about though when Jim was home and she went off to art school.

Pam didn't really do anything to elicit negative reactions during the art school season. I guess every show that is popular just tends to spout off these types of opinions, though.

I will say, I watched Parks and Rec before The Office and before starting The Office, I swore I would not like The Office as much as Parks and Rec. However, I have liked The Office way way more than Parks and Rec.
