Most of the people I know that I consider men of character tend to think of themselves as incredibly flawed individuals who fail in these areas continuously. In other words, they would never publicly state they were a man of character, at best they would say the strive to be a man character and usually add the caveat that they often fail miserably.
In fact, I'd say that acknowledging your flaws is essential to having character.
