When an iPhone user replies to my text message (iMessage), I can tell when they are typing or replying back as my phone will indicate a bubble with ...

I'll look into this phone. Is this the latest and greatest Nexus phone? Phone will be subsidized as I am on an old plan with Sprint and as long as I sign a 2 year agreement (been with them for 9 years), I'll get the phone at a significantly reduced price (around $300.00).

oh, yep. as long as you're using hangouts (just like imessage) but not if they're replying with SMS.
exact same thing, three dots shows they're typing.
