If a Japanese guy goes to Beijing and checks into a hotel, he'll do it in English.

Someone from Finland grabbing a beer in a Belgian bar, orders that beer in English.

if you're a country and you want to participate in the global economy, you mandate that all of your children learn English in school.

did I have to learn Chinese to do business with Chinese manufacturers? No. They speak English. If you want to learn how to write computer programs you do it in English.

Most scientific literature and conferences are in English.

China has more English speakers than the USA. In fact, I'm working in a lab right now where many of the Chinese speak to each other in English because they don't share a common Chinese dialect.
