The Rocketeer is ready to blast off once again.

Walt Disney Studios is developing a reboot of the 1991 action adventure movie, hiring Max Winkler and Matt Spicer to pen the script for the project, which is being titled The Rocketeers.

The project, in the early development stages, is being looked at as a sequel-reboot and in a modern-day twist, will be headlined by a black female character.

Of course it will.

How much will it take before some of you realize that pop culture is anti-straight white male?

Ugh. Can we please just go ahead and cast nothing but black people and women in every role for the next 3 years and call it even after that? I'm tired of this but at least that way there'll be an end in sight to thd Hollywood White Apology.

It's not exactly a "reboot" as much as it is a sequel that apparently takes place 6 years later:

quote:

The new take keeps the story in a period setting and offers a fresh view on the characters. Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War.

I could potentially be on board with this if she's maybe a member of the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots that featured a diverse group and ran non-combat missions during WWII that put them in significant danger flying over enemy lines). And if it's well written and well acted.

If it's fricking Leslie Jones as a high flying farm girl, it's no dice at all.

It's a sequel. They aren't recasting the main character. And the movie is a afterthought, it's not like Hollywood is making Indiana Jones a transsexual engaged in polymorphous marriage.

Too obscure in the eyes of most for many to care...but the period of the story is 1931.

We all know it and just don't want to admit it. Leslie Jones will be cast in the lead role. She's a shooting star.

So pretty much just like Ghostbusters. Bold move Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.

Are they going to make the Rocketeer a tranny or some horseshite to push the PC nonsense?

A solid reboot would be if the Rocketeer is beating up ragheads in Syria or something.
