This is probably not true. As they say, Follow the money. And the money for The Opening is in eye-popping times that get everyone talking about The Opening. The odds are that they fake it by calibrating it to be fast. Probably everyone at that event is 2/10 of a second slower than reported.

Here's a good test for anyone interested enough - compare this year's Combine tests with The Opening results from four years ago (if it was a thing then).

As usual, Rickdaddy has the best perspective. The kids at The Opening this year, after 3 or 4 years in serious college S&C programs, will have slower Combine times. Hmmmm?

This wasn't really debated. The fact is White has a 4.49 on record that was laser timed. No one can really refute that. Not to mention the kid has track times out there that pretty much back up that he's a damn freak of nature.

So does everybody. 3 years ago you had 3 oregon players that had 4.3 times at the Opening and they barely broke 4.4 times at the combine. Once i saw his track times i admitted to being wrong. More times than not the opening times dont hold up under nfl combine clocks. Nothing i said warranted personal attacks.

I AM refuting that. My point is...

1. The Opening consistently produces unreal times that are not corroborated years later when the (improved) athlete goes to the Combine.
2. The Opening has a financial stake in showing super-fast times.
3. Therefore The Opening probably has calibrated their "laser timer" to start late or end early.

It's still good data because you can compare Opening times to each other. But it's reasonable to assume a player's Opening time is lower than reality.

Devin White clearly is a freak athlete. That's what has not been debated here. Rickdaddy has never refuted that. His point is that Devin White can't run a 4.48 forty while weighing 260 lbs. I agree with him.
