I would be shocked if 100% adoption of self driving happens in our lifetimes. Maybe generations from now no one will drive, but I don't think anyone alive today will live in a time where the option to drive is prohibited.

Agreed.
Frankly, the automated driving seems like an all-or-nothing thing. If there is a significant portion of human drivers on the road, it inevitably effects the automated drivers, which can still result in collisions/accidents. Besides, its not like the automated vehicles are going to be top performing right out of the box. They're likely going to have many iterations before it works as the idea now suggests. At least that's how I've seen technology evolve up to this point.
