Yes he was. I was in a class between Matt and Marc. My older brother was a year ahead of Marc. This shite hit home pretty hard when it was someone you basically grew up with in school and knew their family well. I haven't seen or spoken to them since they day I left St. Isidore in sixth grade though. I can't imagine what state of mind his family is in. So sad for his loved ones tonight.

I and my younger brother played for the Garafola family in the early mid 80's on the Bengals. A family dedicated to public service did not deserve such a tragedy. With all of the pomp and circumstance in the prior week mourning the death of a two-time felon, I hope there is far more for Deputy Garafola and Officers Gerald and Jackson - true heroes - men who dedicated their lives, literally, to protecting us. Will Leonard Fournette be sporting a T-shirt with their pictures on social media...will Simone Augustus be honoring their lives of public service at her next game...will President Obama be inviting their families to participate in a "Town Hall"...Will the Black Lives Matter movement march in memory of Officer Jackson, Officer Gerald or Deputy Garafola...Will the protestors from New Orleans who so gleefully marched on Baton Rouge be publicly honoring these assassinated officers...Will the new BR chapter of the Black Panther Party be offering financial support to these now fatherless families?

Deputy Garafola is a hero.
Died trying to render assistance to fallen BRPD officers. He ran from cover and was murdered as he returned fire from a prone position. The coward then proceeded to kill the wounded officer that Deputy Garafola was attempting to protect/save.
God Speed Brad. Thank you for your service to Baton Rouge and your ultimate sacrifice doing the right thing.
