The Current Reality of Drug Addiction

Last week a guy I grew up with, but haven't talked to in the past 8-10 yrs OD'd and died.
Today someone told me about this other guy I knew growing up. Evidently within a few years he became a meth addict.. He is missing teeth, has the whole meth look, etc.
I know drug addiction has been discussed on here before, but lets say over the past five years.. has the number of people you know, who are drug addicts, increased?

A lot of people I know smoked marijuana before. I heard it's bad for you.

actually decreased as people start getting clean - like actual addicts, not necessarily users

Not sure if there are any hard starts, but it seems like a lot of people know regular suburban joes who got hooked on painkillers and have destroyed their lives.

There needs to be a complete overhaul in prescription drugs and pain management.

I don't know anyone who is addicted to drugs.

Nah, it's about the same. Less, really. Most of the ones that were going to die have already passed. The ones still using are casual guys who might do a couple of lines, pop some pills, etc over a long holiday weekend or on a fishing trip and then not think about it once they get home.

Or you're not aware which of the people you know are addicted.

If I have any friends who are addicted they must hide it really well.

The wide circle of friends that I have, considering where I've been doing socializing, has as much heavy substance abuse that you'd expect from directionless wooks.
The real shocker is the amount of "good ol' boys" I know who've been caught up in bennies and opiatea. It wasn't like this when I was a teenager and shortly after.

Do you have any friends? You know like buddies you shoot hoops with?

Why is that always the response to that statement? Isn't it possible all of my close friends never did drugs? I'm 57 and never smoked weed as well as my friends. I didn't want to associate with the people that did. Now alcohol is a TOTALLY different story, I have many sad stories. We always thought we were fricked up enough just drinking ! We wouldn't be here if we also did drugs. Fact.

It is very possible none of your close friends are addicts but unlikely that nobody you know is.

Na, I am fairly positive it has decreased greatly. As far as I know.

doubtful, but possible I guess.

At some point in your life, most of the addicts you know either frick up (and die), or get clean. The exceptions are few and far between.

I wish you and your friends did more drugs old man, maybe you wouldn't be here
