Rogue is a good choice, I've leveled one but they aren't really my style.
It's not just questing until cap. You can run dungeons, PvP, etc for experience. I wouldn't do one thing to level cap.. It might get boring.
Advice? Join a guild or find some friends you like to play with. I can only play so much by myself. If you decide to buy the game up to current expansion, you will get a free max level boost. I wouldn't do that until you leveled your first character through it to make sure you know what your doing.
Addons? I would say a Skada Damage Meter or Recount meter are "must haves." They give you an idea on how well you are doing. Bag management addon like Bagnon would helpful. Deadly Boss Mods for group content. Map addons are nice, especially when you get higher up and can find things for experience.
Ultimately WoW is a game where it really gets fun at max level where you can gear up to Raid or PvP. If you really want to give the game a chance get there before making any judgements.

Questing is probably the least efficient way to get XP, but it's a good time killer in between DPS queues.
