A group of Essence Fest visitors from the Mid-West were trying to find a way home -- and vowing never to return to New Orleans -- after an armed robber took their purses and left them stranded and terrified early Monday (July 4) morning, according to WVUE-Fox 8 New Orleans. "I came for the Essence Festival, but I will never come here again," Janeen Wingr, one of the robbery victims, told the TV station. Wingr and four other women say they were robbed at about 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of North Prieur Street, right in front of a rental home the women had secured online. The group of friends say they were walking to the home from their rental car, following Puff Daddy's show at the Superdome, when "the boy come running around the corner" and demanded their money and the car key. The friends told Fox 8 they threw down their purses, hanging on to the car key and one cell phone, before scattering in various directions and then calling police. On Monday, the women were trying to find a way home minus their belongings and IDs, according to the report. "We were terrified, we're still terrified," Tasha Simon, one of the victims, said.

No description of the perp? What kind of weapon did he use?

I love how things like AirBnB can get away with roping people into some freaking straight up hoods like this.

FLIPKEY on Preiur St. - Is this the house they rented?
Googled the street and this is what popped up
If you saw this house for rent on AirBNB, would you click "reserve"?
Found this one on the same Prieur Street as the robbery.
AirBNB - The Happiness House $159 a night https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13509814?s=zgIsvKZK

I hate to say it, but this is what happens when you "bargain hunt" for staying accommodations in cities like New Orleans.

I can never understand why some people always look for the cheapest place to stay when vacationing. Spend the extra couple hundred dollars for the convenience of knowing you will be a lot safer

There's a map below the individual house you select.

They were women, likely with a good bit of money, from the midwest. The fact that they're black, doesn't make it really any more awful of a hood for them to be walking around in after midnight, or make them any more less likely to be sitting ducks there.
