It was a fun stage to watch today, I say that BMC keeps yellow tomorrow with it looking like a sprint finish, but will probably lose it to the GC contenders either on Friday or Saturday with the race headed to the Pyrenees.
Contador better heal up quick if he wants to podium, there could be some big time gaps this weekend if he performs like he did today.

They will defend it to a certain degree but they won't waste a lot of energy doing so.
Contador is reeling from his crashes. I look for him to try something over the weekend to try and gain back some time. A few years ago, he won the Vuelta on a 60km solo attack in 18th or 19th stage. Truly epic ride. I hope we see him light it up. I'd love to see Froome, Quintana, and AC all within a min of each other going in to the Alps.
