I just finished the SEC Storied of Shaq and Dale Brown.

I'm in my earlyish 20s so, admittedly, the only Shaq I know is the slightly overweight bull for the Heat, etc.

Wow, never realized he was that jacked. I mean, he was pretty damn fit here at LSU.

Any of you have Shaq-LSU or Dale Brown stories? Was Shaq really that great of an athlete?

It wasn't often, but I did see him lead the fast break a few times. He was amazing

I remember being absolutely stunned during his Junior year. He had increased his vertical leap to ~39 inches and was man handling people. His dunks over people were so dominating they were unreal.

Didn't he get suspended against TN during the SEC tourny for a cheesy GI Joe elbow and KY, a team LSU whipped during the regular season, ended up winning it?

Sheesh, 39 inches at 7'+ is freaking insane.

Would y'all say he's the most athletic guy his size, ever?

I was 10-14 and attending the LSU basketball camps regularly during these times. Shaq def liked to have fun. He would constantly introduce himself as Stanley Roberts.

In his prime he was one of the 4-5 most dominant centers to ever play the game. So yeah. He was a pretty good athlete.

i was at LSU during that period. Actually took remedial reading with Stanley Roberts and Chris Jackson. Keep in mind, at that time, the news traveled via newpaper and magazines. There was a huge buzz when he came to LSU. His 1st year he got tore up on the court by other bigs. I remember when Laettner came and he dominated Shaq. Laettner was a year or two older I believe. I also remember seeing Bill Walton walking with Shaq through campus. He was there to help Shaq with free throws. Anyway, Shaq final two years at LSU, he was the most dominate player in the country. It was fun times. And he was very cool around campus. Always goofing off, being silly and laughing.

Freak of nature.

You know the Shaq that was the result of the NBA allowing people to maul him, including the pushing down on his shoulders with both hands that resulted in him losing reach and range of motion.

Shaq put on the weight at Phil Jackson's behest. Phil thought getting bigger was the only way he could combat the physical play the NBA allowed on him. He was right.

I think even Shaq would tell you Hakeem was the most athletic. But Shaq owns the title for dominate - at least, in modern BB.

Bonus Question:

Who shot more jumpshots their freshman year, Shaq or Ben Simmons?

If he could shoot free throws he would have been the greatest!
