I'm only familiar with a couple of spots in SD, but was hoping I could get some recommendations here as to where I can find some good food!
I'm open to any type of cuisine and would be interested to see if anyone has found some good coffee shop/bakery type spots that are popular.
Thanks in advance!

Most of my time there has been spent around La Jolla and Del Mar so this may not apply but if it does the places I would recommend are posieden, Pacifica, and il fornea (sp)

I'll be in La Jolla on Saturday. Is it right there where the cove is? That strip of restaurants up on the hill?

Adalbertos
Used to eat there all the time, when I was in school in Point Loma...Sure there may be other places around there by now, but its always a stop when I am back in town

Asti. Very good Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp District.

A lot of restaurants on Prospect with good happy hours. Roppongi Restaurant and Sushi Bar is excellent, and has a great happy hour. Much more than sushi. The Spot is a good casual restaurant. Rubio's is a chain but has excellent fish tacos. Jose's on Prospect is pretty good for Mexican.
The patio at George's on the cove is highly recommended. The food is good but the view is incredible and worth at least drinks.

There is a place upstairs of Pt. Loma Sport fishing ( this is where the long range tune boats depart)I can't remember the name of it but it's a great little place. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very good food and very casual.

Check out Donut Bar downtown. Expect a long line, so get there early. If it's worth your trouble and you have a big group, you can order a dozen online the night before (before 9pm), and in the morning you can walk straight in and your order will be ready to go. I think we got 13 donuts for $30ish

We had a wonderful meal earlier this year at Bracero Cocina in the Little Italy area. Cool bar / restaurant scene in that area

If you need a casual lunch spot in la jolla I'd recommend El Pescador. It's a fish market so not really a sit down dinner spot. Fantastic fish sandwiches though.

Hodad's, Brian's 24, Donut Bar, Hash House A Go Go, Bobboi gelato in La Jolla. All of these places were great and would recommend to everyone!
