Wife and I haven't been on a vacation since we had kids. So we're itching to just go on a trip. We both prefer a sort of nature getaway. So I suggested we head to the mountains. It's been years since we've been to the Smokies, and my wife suggested we go there. But, we've never been with young kids. So I think hiking in the mountains is out of the picture. I'd also like to avoid the carnival that is Pigeon Forge.

Do you guys have any suggestions on kid friendly activities we could do? My kids are 1 and 2 years old. Roadside attractions, short walks, and pretty much anything not too strenuous. And we don't necessarily need to stay in one spot for very long. We just want to get away for a while and enjoy some sites.

TIA

ETA: We're not married to the Smokies idea. Other suggestions are very welcome.

Checkout Bear Creek Log Cabins We have been 5 times and it's a perfect place for a getaway with a family with small kids. The owners of these cabins are a really nice couple. They give you access to their entire property which includes a fishing pond loaded with perch and bass, a path to some local trails and you can even go play with their goats. Nearby, Ft. Payne and Mentone have advanced and easy trails, State Parks with waterfalls, cool restaurants etc. It's also only about an hour away from Chattanooga which is a good city to spend the day with children. (Aquarium, Rock City, etc)

Stay on the North Carolina / Blue Ridge side and you cant go wrong. Way less touristy and trashy then the crap show that is Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg

They being 1 & 2 won't remember it anyway, leave them with the in-laws and take your wife somewhere for uninterrupted sex.

looks like yall are having fun. There is a decent bbq place just outside of town, southwest side.

Also, Cashiers is right down the road(east) has some decent restaurants.
