Tree #2 looks like a red maple. Any better leaves on #1?

I had to jump to get those from tree #1. Next weekend I'll try to get some better ones. I'm tired of bush hogging around them, thinking of cutting them down.

Yea, not real sure those are from the same tree they are growing on. The leaves on the bottom left look like water oak.

I thought the leaves look Oakish as well.

It's an oak I'm pretty sure, and I've seen water oak have some weird looking leaves. That was my initial thought, but I'm on my phone and the leaves are all eaten up

The bottom left ones might be some poison Ivy or something. I had to jump up and grab these. I'll have a pole saw next weekend to try and get a better sample of leaves.

I don't think its Water Oak. I think Swamp Chestnut Oak or Chinquapin Oak

I've seen both water and live oak leaves look pretty similar to other oak trees when they are new (definitely not a live oak though). It all depends where they are. I've seen water oaks have leaves 12" long, and I've seen live oak leaves look just like cow oak in the wild. Just need better pictures of the leaves in the tree and the shape of the tree

Yeah oak leaves underneath that are shaded will look different than their normal leaves.
But the bark just doesn't look right to me for Water Oak.

I agree on that. It's just not a good enough set of pictures to give a definitive answer

I'll take some better pics this weekend. They're located around the Pineville, LA area.

Jesus. This is exactly like something a teacher would do to stump students on a test. Post picture of only bark from up close, with photos of leaves from tiny vines growing on the tree.
From the second photo I'd say it's either a water oak or a willow oak. It's not a maple, sugarbeery, cow oak, or anything else mentioned this far. Good pictures would definitely help.
Edit. Never mind. Kinda drunk here. I don't know what it is. take some better pics and post before 8pm and I can help maybe.

Those are definitely Hackberry leaves.

Yea, that is what I said in my original post. These are the ones I was talking about looking like water oak.
My point was that you have to see leaves on an actual branch to know what you are looking at.

Tree 1 is a hackberry/sugarberry
Tree 2 is a box elder
Both grow in alluvial/ river bottom types of soil.

Sugar berry, rednecks call it hackberry, there's a hackberry too, they look identical, site (where it's growing) usually determines which species is which. So, it mifpght be a hackberry, hope this helps.
