I personally believe that a firearm safety class should be required when someone purchases a gun. Accidental shootings are far to common an occurrence and too many do not know how to properly store a firearm.

I agree, but gun control laws don't help this. DC, Detroit, New Orleans, Oakland, Baltimore, Newark, L.A., and Chicago all have stringent gun control laws, yet somehow they account for an overwhelming amount of firearm violence and homicides when accounting for their rates and population.

Germany has a fairly well armed population. Not as much as the USA, but internationally they are in the top 20

My original post that started this dialogue was due in part to asinine comments by media, celebs, and politicians that are being streamed, tweeted, meme'd, and rambled on 24/7. There are ways to curb gun violence. The measures being presented and faux fear/outrage towards firearms is completely ludicrous.
Before any legislation in regards to gun control and limiting rights, I would like to see: firearm safety classes being required for purchases, and real help for the mentally ill, not just coddling because it's cruel to tell someone that they are fricked in the head and you are scared they will hurt themselves or someone else.

Completely agree. But people will even argue that is too restrictive. Because politicians suck arse.

I agree it would help, but the underlying problems of those communities most affected by gun violence will still remain.

They have hunter education and firearm safety in the middle schools here.
We also have many resources for the mentally ill. However, many refuse help because it requires them to abstain from drugs/alcohol. I would say most mentally ill self medicate.

There's also the stigma attached to mental illness that basically makes it a badge of shame to admit you need help.
