What do you want him to do? Not settle and just Baylor offers him a fair sum once the shitstorm settles? That would never happen. He did took the best offer for himself just like each of these victims will ultimately do. When one of them passes up a settlement to take their case to trial "on principle" call me. It won happen.

Baylor obviously insisted on a non-disparagement clause like any competent institution would do.

yeah i mean this is all pretty standard in litigation and isn't even that cunning

it's her suit, right? and he settled, and likely had to agree not to participate in her litigation as a result

However he almost certainly did not intentionally lie about this mediation. At the time he probably intended to be there (for his own ends if nothing else). In the interim Baylor offered him a settlement that was contingent on not disparaging Baylor. He accepted and couldn't appear. Now taking that settlement is not being an absolute paragon of virtue, but everyone in this case will take the settlement that is best for them personally.

exactly

shite changes in litigation with only 2 parties. when you have all sorts of suits and parties and third parties in related suits, shite can move a light speed and you find yourself in a totally new situation from day to day

He will be coaching at a major program next year.

As long as he can win, schools DGAF how big a shithead he is.

Hell, would not surprise me if he is in the SEC next year.

Why is it that Briles is so low for doing that?

It's not that he's a piece of shite for doing that. It's that he did that because he's a piece of shite.

This situation is what it is. This is a pretty common situation in the legal world. As an example, Bubba the Love Sponge (who was the one who actually leaked the sex tape) settled with Hulk Hogan for a pitiful amount in return for Bubba throwing Gawker under the bus.

Briles made a judgment about whether settling his employment issue with Baylor was a good idea. He decided it was a good offer. Every victim/plaintiff in this case will at some point make that same decision. Everyone eventually looks out for themselves.

and that's exactly why Baylor and Briles are in this mess.

sure, legally he is correctly protecting himself by getting all the money he can from Baylor.

but as a man?

sorry, dude is showing himself to be scum who really cares only about himself rather than the victims his team management led to being abused.

As I said earlier, I don't feel any sympathy towards Briles for repeatedly allowing "problem players" on his team. I also believe (though I have no direct evidence) that he had at least some knowledge of what some of these crimes and turned a blind eye. At best it is a Rick Pitino situation of "if you didn't know you should be fired for incompetence."

You could also say that Baylor is lower than a snakes belly because they essentially gave Briles hush money.

Sounds good to me.

As an attorney, if you were to represent art, would you tell him to accept? And if you were representing the female, would you do anything different?

i don't know all the details about this story

If I were going to write an unauthorized biography of Art Briles, this is what I would title the book.

No way in the world Briles is in the SEC next year, or ever for that matter.

Bobby Petrino was virtually blackballed by the conference for hiring his mistress in the athletic department. Briles's offenses and the culture he facilitated were profoundly worse.

Also, for all the hype he gets, Briles didn't win shite at Baylor. He won a Russell Athletic Bowl and an Alamo Bowl in addition to some downright embarrassing losses in the Cotton and Fiesta.
