I personally use a projector with a Fire Stick with Kodi while camping. I use the 3.5mm audio out jack on my projector and input it into my kicker ampitheather speaker.

Does the projector not have an audio out at all? I guess that would make the difference and have the need for the external box for audio.

some projectors have no audio out.. which is why i made sure mine did.

the only thing he can do is whatever source he is using will need some sort of audio out to hook up to his soundbar. firesticks don't have audio out and i don't think firetv does either. roku sticks don't have audio out, but perhaps a regular roku would..? not sure any ways, he says wants an appletv and i believe they have optical out.. so just use an optical cable to hook it up to the soundbar and make sure your sound bar is on the optical setting.. use your remote and press select when you get to the correct input.

not sure which appletv you should get.. they have some android device that allows for kodi and perhaps they have audio out as well. i'm sure someone else may know more.

Check this out. It says it has Kodi pre-installed and it says it has optical out I believe. And it's only like $40..

LINK

and if u don't like it.. say it doesn't run right or you don't like it and you can return it back to amazon within 30 days..

or check out the similar products.. there seems to be a ton of devices that can run kodi? just make sure they have some sort of sound out that will hook up to the soundbar.

here's another one

hopefully someone else more familiar can give their input on these
