I would've preferred LSU take the raise money they gave PM and hand it to this guy to keep him here at all costs. He's a great young coach and I'd imagine we're not going to hold on to him for much longer unfortunately. Anyone who thinks a hitting coach doesn't matter in baseball is blind. Their plate approach and discipline this year for such a young group was amazing. Since he came here you can tell it's totally different from when Javi was here.

Not trying to slam PM because I think he's a good coach(even though I don't like him as a person) I just think AD is that valuable to us right now. I kinda didn't like how PM went about getting that raise either but it is what it is. He did a very good job with a team that surpassed all expectations this year.

What makes you think Cannizaro and Dunn won't get raises, too?

I've talked with Mainieri numerous times and he has always been extremely friendly and patient in answering my questions.

A couple of years ago my kids gave me a gift of a custom made, personalized with my name on it, LSU themed, purple Marucci wood bat for Father's Day (timely). I took it to the LSU baseball office to see if I could drop it off for the LSU coaches to autograph and I would go back and get it later.

As I was explaining to the baseball secretary at her front desk what I wanted, Coach Mainieri overheard me from his office, came out and said, "We're all here now, let's do it while you're here," and then walked me and the bat to each coaches' office to get it autographed while I was there.

He didn't have to do that.

When I was first diagnosed with colon cancer 9 years ago, out of the blue I received in the mail a framed photograph of Coach Mainieri on which he wrote get well soon wishes and signed it. To this day I'm not sure how he knew what I was going through but his gesture was and still is greatly appreciated.

He didn't have to do that either.
