As a preferred walk-on can that linebacker from West Monroe, Layton ? workout with the team this summer?

Hope so and I have a good feeling him...even if he never starts I feel like he will bring a different attitude to the linebackers as a whole!

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to practice even as a preferred walk on. I would think not only could he practice but he could start if he was good enough. Of course if that happened I would think he would get a full ride.

I know he's down there. I don't know details about working out/etc. Layton Garnett is his name.

Once you're enrolled, he's basically on the team at that point. Is he not added to the roster yet?
ETA: He's not added to the online roster yet, so I guess it would come down to if he's enrolled in summer classes or not.

me too. I look at this kid to be the old school head knocker. probably earn a schollie by special teams play and evolve into the LB slot

His Mom posted Monday that he had to check in to LSU for classes and football this past weekend.

A friend of mine was a former preferred walkon for LSU. Just like the scholarship players they work out with the team during the summer, even prior to their freshman year.

Thought I remember reading something to the effect that preferred walk-ons can start participating before regular walk-ons.

Yes. They have access to everything scholarship players have access to.

Get him on the special teams early. We really need some help on there. He can develop into a starting ILB down the road.

Doesn't hurt that aranda. Wanted him bad. Aranda really liked his film and what he did during individual workout.

let's be honest, LG is probably better than most of the defensive players he had at Wisky. I'm sure he sees a role for him. I expect the kid to be a nice contributor his junior/senior years. Very underrated player

Didn't he have offers from tcu and some of the other big boys?

This kid is a sleeper. Keep his name in the back of your mind. Two words, football player

He just needs to keep conditioning himself and he will one day play. He is about 6'3" 255-265 lbs. If he gets down to 250 and gets ripped and leaner, he will be faster. After practicing with some of the better LB's in the country, he will make it in 2017-18 or 2018-19. Watching his footage he has the mind for football. Unlike Clifton Garrett who was a wash early on.
