I see they are cutting down/clearing the trees on the land adjacent to the railroad by McDonald's, Southgate etc. I know that Nicholson is supposed to be 4 laned from Walk Os to Lee under the Green Light project. Anyone know if the clearing of trees is part of the site work for upcoming road construction on Nicholson?

I saw that and was hoping it was related.

There are also a lot of survey marker stakes that just went up at the brightside / Nicholson intersection. Mostly on brightside near the train tracks.

Preliminary work for the road project was done about 5-7 years ago, so it should break ground for construction by 2020 given the cities usual turn around

I don't think it's close to construction. The GLP website doesn't have very much updated information on the project right now, but it's been in planning for a long time. Someone mentioned something about the railroads...I am not privy to much information on this particular project, but I would imagine that any widening of Nicholson adjacent to the railroad there would definitely be a conflict of both Nicholson ROW and railroad ROW.

Why would they stop at Lee?

They should extend it all the way to Gonzales. Boom there's half of your loop. the only thing left to do would then to build a bridge connecting LA 1 in the West Bank with Nicholson/Hwy 30 on the east back somewhere between brusly and Plaquemine.

I think they are waiting on the state to change the grade of the Brightside/Lee railroad crossing and do the projects together.
