Yes, the knot matters. There are different knots for different rigs and different situations. Every fisherman should own THIS BOOK imo.
Much more of what is in it is applicable to saltwater, but it covers all the useful knots that you would use in freshwater too. It also give you tips on tying knots that you won't find in apps.
