Apparently the cargos that I've seen and wear are completely different than the ones you've seen. Are your normal shorts "skinny shorts" or something like skinny jeans?
When at home, going out to the store, going fishing, or anything of similar nature, I don't care about appearances.
Going out for something better than your average day occasion and wearing shorts, however, is trashy period. You wear pants when appearance is of importance. The quality of the occasion decides the quality of the pants.

i dont know what skinny shorts are. mine hang right above the knee, as opposed to halfway down my shin.
