Why did Eisenhower and Truman have such a Problem with the USMC?

I've always read that they both wanted to do away with em but never understood why.

I realize both were army officers as well and may just have been ingrained to not think very highly of the USMC.

Eisenhower really was pretty fricking beta. He was a politician and didn't really understand savage fighting. That's probably why he disliked Patton and fricked over Chesty Puller.

They didn't have the bearing for the corps.

They were essentially pussies, by USMC standards.

Yeah all these answers were what I thought. The Army was a huge dog and pony show back then.

Ike went big for the 'more bang for the buck' approach. Nukes, air power, less ground troops. Reorganized the Army, too, as well as a huge reduction in force. Saw the USMC as redundant.

Truman was a national guard artillery fig and Ike fought in that pussy European theater.

In modern warfare, the roles of the USMC and the Army overlap quite a bit. Given Ike's background...it's not a surprise that he tried to shore up support for his goal.
