My company just rebuilt a gear box that was originally installed in 1963 from a paper mill in Alabama. No telling how many hours that thing has run without a failure.

Good gearboxes literally last forever.
I did an internship at a plant that made its own power with natural gas generators built in the 30's. One of the engines ran for 390 days without stopping.
The point is, well built shite is very much worth the up front premium in most instances if it's taken care of. I don't think you'll ever hear anyone say a Toyota pickup isn't relatively well built.
