Not practical or dependable for everyday

Instead, have a routine that you call your SO after drop off everyday. Then, if your SO doesn't get a call by s certain time, they will call you to ask if everything's ok

My car has push start, so I think leaving the keys in the back would work, after I buckle the car seat in.

Good advice though.

I love how leaving something in the back seat, a briefcase, a gym bag anything is less practical/dependable than a message/call to your SO.

If we are talking about routines, wouldn't that habit just continue? Yeah, dropped him off, have a good day.

The problem isn't the well-oiled routine. It's when the routine is off kilter that these things happen. It happens on the day that the SO is in the office early because their co-worker is out sick and the husband takes a phone call from his dad regarding his mom's cancer diagnosis and keeps driving to work. And that call never happens or goes straight to VM and no message is left.
