I got on an elliptical for the first time yesterday. Awkward as hell for me to use and almost immediate muscle burn in my legs. So that seemed legit.

If you have the cash, get a free range motion elliptical. I precor had the patent.

It's an elliptical that doesn't force into a set stride. You can run with your natural motion, use it like a stair machine, or take giant gazelle strides, without any impact. Best machine I've ever used. But I figure it's not very cheap.
