Ole JBE might have hope yet if he signs it. The House Bill that was also approved by the Senate goes to JBE for signature.
H.B. 304, by Rep. Tanner Magee, R-Houma. The measure would exempt all veterans from fees associated with the five-year permit or lifetime concealed handgun permit. Current law requires veterans to pay half of the fees associated with obtaining a concealed carry permit.

Sounds really good! Hope JBE signs it.

We need that here in FL

When I opened this thread I was expecting to see something negative regarding CCW. This is great and I hope it passes

In before Broke -- I'm still gonna charge 'em full price.
I keed.
I keed.

More political pandering. Half off was more than fair.
Posted on 5/4/16 at 2:18 pm to NASA_ISS_Tiger
He will probably raise the fees for everyone else to make up for the lost revenue.

Fair enough. So, you're cool with your men and women in uniform giving half effort in combat?
Good deal.

What does their effort in combat have to do with a CCW permit?
Are you saying that military personnel would give half the effort in combat if this is vetoed? Way to call the integrity of our military personnel into question.
Why do you hate the fine folks in uniform?

One's really got nothing to do with the other. I was trying to raise the absurdity of your saying "half off is more than fair."

Absolutely not. Just because you value their service at "half" doesn't mean they're petty or petulant enough to call you on it.

You don't want to tangle with me son.

You should see a family picture of Clan Midnight, baw.

I don't want to contribute to, or prolong, any argument, but "military spouses" is one of the categories that allow into my classes at zero charge.
I don't recall any (maybe one ?) active duty .mil students. But their spouses are always welcome.

Why is that absurd? It's more than fair.
The only thing that's absurd is that you think that if we don't give everything for free that we're somehow leaving them twisting in the wind.

Quite the opposite. I support them 100%, which is why I support civilians paying twice as much as veterans do for a permit.
I get tired of this unnecessary hero worship. I'm grateful for and appreciate their service, but the constant self aggrandizement gets on my nerves. I thought they were supposed to teach humility and gratefulness in the military. If you want to serve your country, I applaud you and am grateful for your service but stop trying to demonize those that don't agree with your lust for handouts. Did you sign up to serve your country or did you sign up to get free shite?

You do a lot of really good shite. Respect.
But you're still a dork

Dawg - we generally don't need the course, as a DD214 with small arms training (like basic) generally suffices. I had heard that was changing (I'm NOT a CCW holder, but this may be what pushes me over the line - can't wait for Constitutional Carry much longer) and not sure how recertification goes, but that's why you don't see uniformed military students (at least I think that is the likely reason.)

Here's what I want you to do - I want you to imagine that you have a bunch of folks who volunteer for the regular army, national guard, reserve, what have you. Every one of them gets fingerprinted, national agency checked, annually drug tested, annually checked on their proficiency at arms, annually checked for medical readiness, annually checked for HIV, annually checked for physical fitness. In some cases they're put in charge of armed aircraft, armed vehicles, machineguns - all kinds of gee whiz shite to not only directly defend us, but to also go out there, close with and destroy the enemy - not sanctioned by the civilian authority mind you, but ORDERED by the civilian authority.
And now - you want those folks to come to the state with a check for the right to conceal a pistol on their person to defend themselves or their families out and about in public?
Laughably absurd on its face. But, go ahead and think of this in the same way you do folks down at the Waffle House giving guys in uniform a breakfast combo for half price.

Yes.
It costs money to process, track and approve/deny these permits. If you think the folks you described shouldn't have to have a permit due to their MOS, then that's another argument. Until then, you get the luxury of paying half of what I do.
Thank you for your service.

And you don't see any irony in that?

Obviously I don't.

Not at all. I think all uniformed military (and veterans) should be exempt.

You've been quite clear on that point. The fact that it doesn't make a lot of sense seems lost on you. The whole reason for the permit system was to make sure folks weren't bad guys and had the class. Louisiana already exempts them from the class. So maybe they're willing to fill out the paperwork, but these are exactly, precisely the people you want carrying concealed, other than off-duty cops who are exempt from such formalities.

Thank you for your service
Don't thank me - I'm extraordinarily well-paid for a poor kid from rural Louisiana. Thank the troops that barely pull minimum wage.

There is no irony. Either get the permit and pay for it or don't. I don't care either way.
quote:
Obviously I don't.
Well then that's a whole different argument.

Ok

It costs money to process these permits. It doesn't pay for itself. It's not rocket science.
If you don't think you need to be permitted, then that's a whole different argument. Until then, you can pay half price.
Most people would be happy with a 50% discount.

Yes, just like I expect them to pay taxes and vote.

I think higher of that because it is a private company that wants to offer the discount. Not me as a taxpayer having to fork over more money because of the job you chose to have.

Practically, I do hear from a fair number of former .mil folks, even some within the 60 month window, who want to learn about civilian "rules of engagement."
