agree that it is no bargain but I feel great about investing in him. He is dominant and still improving. Good dude and character from all I have ever read.
Armstead and Graham were both grand slam swinging for the fences on upside potential picks. The FO has earned enough cred from me to wait 'n see for picks like Onyemata before criticizing.
In my estimation, small school talents are improving each year (see Wentz). Glad the Saints are among the leaders in mining talent away from the big school beaten path.

IMO anytime you lock up an elite/premiere player for less than the new top dollar for that position to a multi year deal in their prime...it is a bargain. 15% off is a sale.
Look at what Suh, Mario Williams, and Von Miller did to their drafting franchises. Demanded every ounce of money you can pay them(Von) or they bounce for new record deals(Mario and Suh).
Between the draft and FA it is hard enough to find and get that kind of talent in the building the first time...then you turn around and have to really PAY or try replace that caliber of player.(still trying to replace Nicks after 4 years)
He is a projected top 3 earning tackle next year (more people can still sign before then)
by year 3/5 he may not even be top 8 in earnings
by year 5 he may not be top 12 in earnings
We have also already been fortunate enough to get to pay him practically nothing his first 4 years(while sloshing through cap hell) even though he has been a high end starter for over 3 of those years.

He's worth that money. I think he would get more on the open market for sure. He's a soldier on the field. Losing him would be horrible for us.
