@RapSheet: #Saints LT Terron Armstead signed a 5-year extension worth $64.5M base, source said. $38M guaranteed for injury, $25M fully guaranteed. Big.

12.9 over 5 years...that is a nice bargain for a guy who would be commanding 16-17 million next offseason.
Between the Cam and Armstead contracts

The quote above is from the other thread.
Looks like it's about the same. I think that's a good deal on the Saints end.

Yall might doubt Loomis sometimes. But the man will always be known for being a great numbers guy.

That makes him the third highest paid LT (on a per year basis). Hardly stole.
But yeah I have zero issues paying him that. Just stay healthy dammit. Best LT in the league!

Until something happens and then this is a horrible contract.
Everyone forgets how much we praise these contracts in the beginning (well except maybe Harper's), but then on a lot of them Murphy's Law hits us.
Knock on wood with this one especially.
Edit:
Also, I'm not the one complaining when things go south though. shite happens and all that.
Galette's contract was great until he went full retard. You never go full retard.

I'm happy with these numbers.

As it is now, it is a very good contract for both he and the team. The value will come in the next 2 years when the other top OT's start demanding 14-15 a year. Reason #1 I was so excited we signed him now as opposed to while he was on a Tag.

Can't wait to see "we're paying this bum 65 million" when he gives up a sack.

We should have taken Collins still. He could have played LT and LG

Loomis's bad contracts have been mostly his FA deals.(although he has hit a few).
I liked all of his resignings except for Harper(which you mentioned) and Graham.
I thought we should have resigned Graham a year earlier just as we did with Jordan and Armstead while we still maintained some leverage for a fair deal.
The going rate was cheaper(8 mill per year), we knew at the time already we wanted to extend him, the process obviously made him bitter between tag designations, court battles, whining even afterwards, etc. and the whole thing just sort of backfired.
I will not fault him for the Galette deal. Junior was obviously a solid find as a player and the deal for his production was a bargain.

What do the cap numbers look like? Or signing bonus?
Posted on 5/4/16 at 8:29 am to Mr. Wayne
Oh no doubt. I was just pointing out the irony of calling the contract of the third highest paid LT on a per year basis (by only 300k less per than the top guy) a steal.
Great contract, but far from a steal.
Also yeah any first year cap hit numbers yet? Or full details? Probably in another hour or two.

The player has to agree to do it that way though. He likely learned from Brees to wait until the last minute to maximize your money.

It's a steal if we're gonna compare it to the open market. It saves us about 1.5-2mil a ywar

Again it could have been bull shite coming from Jimmy trying to maintain good public PR but when I talked with him during that years offseason he said he was getting low balled because Loomis was using his injuries from 2012 as a negotiating point.(basically only 1 year of top TE production from 2011)
Said he wanted a deal similar to Gronk and would have signed something along those lines because of the security. I think Jimmy's rookie deal averaged around 350K a year.
He mentioned a comment that Drew used to tell him presnap about leading him in the middle. He said its either going to be a big play...or a missed opportunity. "your big...you can take it". I thought it was funny but you could see on his face he was actually kind of sad even talking about it.
I think if he had a deal that was right he would have signed it because of things like how he was used in our offense. Jimmy used to take some monster shots...I don't think he would "bet" on himself.

Does this help our cap this year?
