Beginner Archery equipment help

My kid (now 18) took an archery lesson as part of outdoor Ed in High school. Really liked it and wants to shoot more. I have never shot a bow in my life so I don't know anything about buying a bow. Would like something used possibly. Certainly inexpensive in case it is a passing fancy. Does it have to be "fitted"? Can I just go buy any size? This will be for target only no hunting. Oh and also left handed. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Just go to a bow shop and pick out a cheap one

What bows were they using for the class?
If he's just doing it for for fun, I wouldn't drop much money into it.

If we're talking about compound bows, as I assume we are, it has to be "fitted" in that it needs to be the correct draw length. Most bows will adjust a couple of inches or so. So, get his draw length checked, and make sure the bow is set to fit him.
