Leaving early must be a generational thing. In my day, 1987-92, we stayed until nearly the end of every game, and this was during the less-than-stellar Mike Archer and Gerry Dinardo years.
Our dates wanted to be at the game as well. It's just what you did.
We were rewarded tremendously in 1988.....the earthquake game vs Auburn.

When I was there, it was common to leave early, but only for small games that were blow outs. No body was leaving if you were up by 10 with a quarter left to go. I remember some huge games (Auburn '05, Florida and Auburn '07) where everyone obviously was there. But then I remember big games that turned into blowouts (Va Tech), where everyone left at the start of the 4th. I think it was just a product of the teams we were putting together at the time. Again, the seats are assigned, so it's obvious when those sections empty. Whereas the regular student section all just moves closer and closer and you can't really pinpoint who left, but just that the top of the stadium is now empty.
