That is because when you die your consciousness goes back to Ultimate Reality. Your Source of Being. This life is an illusion, or maya as it is known to Hindus. Your true nature is consciousness and your mind is so powerful it creates this experience you call third dimensional life. That is it in a nutshell.

I went into cardiac arrest and was flatlined for a bit. I remember becoming aware that I was no longer in pain and there was a sense of pure happiness. No lights, family or pets were present. It wasn't dark nor light, I had no physical presence, I felt like a smile. Then I was sucked back into my painful physical self and here I am. Living a better, more attentive and giving life.
