I can't tell if you're joking. Am I really getting ripped? 20 bucks an hour for a 19 year old to teach some kid to throw a baseball sounded pretty good to me
Never mind.

Yeah, here in my part of FL it's about $40 per half hour and $60 per hour.
You are way low. Good luck.

Teach him to throw a slider, a curve and a knuckle curve.
Call his orthopedic surgeon and tell him you expect a kickback in 6-8 years.

It's insane what washed up parents will pay these days to have their kid play a game.

Haha I doubt it. Kids not exactly a prodigy.

really wants his kid to be the best on his usssa baseball team
Well I'm sure that almost all dads want their son to be the best on his team. But that doesn't mean that we'll go to ridiculous lengths to make it happen.
As to your question, 11 years old is too early. 14 is the best age for that. Also, keep working on the change up with him. I'd rather a pitcher have a dirty change up than curveball. A good change up is absolutely lethal.

Lessons around here are $30 half hour and $45 an hour.

Then why are you even asking?

Don't let that bother you. The best pitchers on 10U teams throw strikes. One of our best pitchers (11U) has 1 pitch and that's a fastball but he throws strikes, mixes up his delivery time and has a hell of a pickoff move to 1st and 2nd. We dont ever pick to third.

Asking what? I mean he's not terrible but he's not head and shoulder above everybody else. I just didn't wanna hurt the kid and have him quit baseball when he's 13 or 14 because he's already had Tommy john. It wouldn't sit well with me.

Up io $60 an hour and teach him the proper curve technique. Won't hurt his arm if he does it correctly.

Yeah he's a lefty to so he's got natural run on his fastball which I've told his father. I'm just gonna tell him that the fastball and change up is good for now.

Might as well give up on the kid if he can't already throw a 80mph knuckleball at age 10

You seem like you know the answer to your original question already. Medically, it's not a good idea. The world's most notable orthopedic surgeon suggests waiting until AT LEAST 14. That should be good enough for little Johnny and his dumb arse parents.

I agree. Just don't confuse me with one of those people. I have never paid for my son to have a lesson.

I've got a guy who's asked me to give his kids some private lessons for bseball, he wants me to help his batting and pitching. He's pitched last year for the first time, so mostly I'm just cleaning up mechanics, but what I was wondering was is he too young for me to teach him how to throw a breaking ball. I've taught him to throw a circle change along with 4 seam and 2 seam fastball. Should he stick with that or should I teach him to throw the hook? If it was my kid I wouldn't but his dad has asked me a couple times if I'm gonna teach him any other pitches so I get the feeling he's wanting me to. The kid is 10 will be 11 in june.
Nope, I have an 11 yo and he throws 2 pitchs, 4 seam and 2 seam. He can pick up a change-up when he starts playing for the jr high team in two years.

Like some other guy said though, I'm not some 50 year old whos convinced his a baseball whisperer. Just a college guy who had a pretty decent high school career so he wanted to get his kid training at a discount and he didn't have to pay me 60 bucks a lesson.

Go for it. I missed the part where you were young. When you get this guy to the majors though raise your rates.

Thanks, if It was up to me I would have the kid just play first and focus on hitting because he's already pretty good at the plate, but his father is just convinced that since he's a lefty he's gonna be a 1st round draft pick as a pitcher.
