I'm in central and I can barely get 3 channels from a mohu type antenna. It is supposed to be 35 mile. What am I missing?

You should be getting 30+ channels in your area. Where is your antenna, is your house covered by a lot of trees, etc? There's a lot of things that could impact signal

I forgot the site, but you can see where the towers are around your area. I'd suggest pointing your antenna that way

Yeah I guess there are a lot of trees but I had the same problem when I lived on Millerville in those apartments. I've never had luck with table top antennas. Is it just time that I put on in the attic and stop being lazy?

The placement of any antenna is the key. Put it on the side of the house where there is a minimum of building materials through which the signal has to pass, preferably with just the roof sheathing and shingles between the antenna and outside. A bathroom or an air conditioning unit or several walls in the path will almost certainly give you bad results.

I just put the HDB4X in my attic hanging from a coat-hanger (just to see if I could get signal before permanently mounting it in there), and it got a rock solid signal from 40 miles out.
I think I may test mounting it on my old DirecTv dish to see if the parabolic dish has a positive effect on signal strength before I mount it in the attic though.
ETA: Just did some research. A DirecTv dish just isn't big enough
