Guitar lessons - should I tip?

I'm taking my first private guitar lesson today at $45/hour. I've never picked up a guitar before so we'll be starting from scratch - learning to play and sight reading.
Is it customary to tip after each lesson? If so, how much?
Thanks

You're already paying a shitload. No.
Also, make sure to actually put in the time with this. Don't get frustrated. You can't be Hendrix over night. I see way too many people get discouraged really quickly with music.

Okay Mr. Rockefeller, we get it.
And unless your instructor is some cute female who is also assisting you in playing your skin flute, I'd say they are already more than properly compensated for their efforts.

I pay $20 a lesson and was playing with a band within 2 months. $45 seems like a lot to me. You live in Baton Rouge?

Private lessons from a person with a degree and working as a musician average $30-50/hr in my experience.
Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts averages $60/hr.
Stick with it. The journey is half the fun.

You should always tip people in the service industry. If he went above and beyond, tip him

I would be insulted if a student tipped me.
I guess you could get away with it with a 50 bill and he can't break it.
Naw, i would just take it off his next lesson. Dont do it.
