It's what the cigar business is, now. You've got more taxes, the SCHIP tax is levied against the manufacturers based on warehouse inventory. That, then, has to be passed onto the wholesaler, and then to the retailers.
The prices, then, charged to the tobacconists are higher, so the prices in shops are higher.
I haven't been to a cigar shop in B.R. in almost 20 years. I see that Bayou is still open, though. It was fairly "no frills" back then, but had great selection. Is that still the case? Habana Port in Covington, before they moved, had great selection, as well. Don't know about it's sibling in Baton Rouge, however.
