Question regarding the Nats winning run vs the Braves.

Don't know HOW many times I've seen MLB catchers mishandle one or two hop throws from the outfield.
It's obvoiusly not that easy fielding those throws
with a catchers mitt. Why not, depending of course where
the ball is hit how much time it takes, have the 1st basemen get his glove to the catcher?
Now,you obviously take the 1st baseman out of the play either backing up or a potential run down play.If the ball is hit to right and he's a cutoff man you obvoiusly cannot do something like this otherwise I think its worth the risk in getting the catcher a better fielding glove and potentially preventing the winning run.
Once again, this all depends on how much time you have to get the glove to the catcher.Yesterdays scenario would have been ideal.
At least you experiment with it in spring break and see what happens.
And Yes,I played baseball as a kid and all the way through HS and I also played 1st.

That was bad baseball all around. Taylor didn't get it deep enough, Werth shouldn't have been sent, Werth was slow as shite, AJ dropped it.
The throw was good I guess. Some bad baseball at times yesterday. And yeah catchers suck at this - if the tables were turned Ramos drops it 9/10 times also.

I could see a team trying this and it instantly being a not top 10 play when it doesn't work.

City league doesn't count.

no...
Catchers mitt has developed over the years. I see more and more catchers actually catching bad throws in the dirt than trying to block them these days.
No excuse AJ should have caught it.

Didn't see the play, but I thought many times player were taught to one hop it in there?

As a huge baseball fan (and diehard Braves fan FWIW), this may just be the most ignorant idea I have ever seen. What you are suggesting is not only ridiculous but would be damn near impossible to pull it off. Not to mention, having played catcher myself, I can truly say that I felt more comfortable using a mitt than any other glove and still do to this day. OFs are taught to one hop or two hop the throw because it minimizes ball flight and time to plate. Catchers are taught to receive the ball with two hands (one over the mitt) to ensure it doesn't pop out. IMHO it isn't more difficult to catch a ball with a mitt, particularly when that is the only thing you practice with.

I'd like to say that I'm not saying this is a great idea, but if the play is part of a multi-base hit, then the 1B is pretty much out of the play, except for a cut-off or back-up. It would be easier to have the 1B handle the throw at home. Why bother switching gloves? Just have the 1B rotate in to cover home.
Better idea is make catchers work on improving their skills in this area.

Was not the winning run.

In most scenarios the 1st baseman is either main cutoff with a shallow hit to the outfield or secondary to a straight away hit where a play at the plate is likely. You may say that isn't important, but it could be the difference between 1 run and 2 runs scored with a throwing error that isn't properly backed up.
