A big cat is like any predator, they want to get a meal with the least energy expenditure. They've attacked small dogs, but they generally don't frick with big dogs. They're not looking for a fight, they're looking for easy prey.

I think a dog like the Caucasian Ovcharka could hold its own. They were bred to hunt bears in Russia.
