Any recommendations for spots to fly in Baton Rouge? Any place where its illegal to fly besides the Airport? I'm just getting started so I'm looking for a wide open spot to learn to fly.

The airplane flyers had some space at Burbank but they are trying to move off River Road past the Farr Park
Might want to check with them when they get it up and running, they may let you.

Lamar Dixon had some space allocated as well and they have a lot of open fields out there you could probably use.

I would guess Independence Park might be an option as long as you stay off the soccer fields.

You'll be fine right here at Highland Road Park.

Rugby Team is away this weekend so shouldn't be any organized events there with permission from BREC to tell you to frick off. We've flown kites here and seen old Gas Powered RC Helicopters here since early 80s.

Highland Road Park. Rugby Pitch. Public Open Space

This isn't technically Public but it's wide open and people jog and ride bikes around it EVERY day. Hell I've seen artists painting, hunting dogs being trained, etc. And it's big enough for Hot Air Balloons.
Open Field at Pennington.

And I'm positive nobody will tell you to leave this spot.
It's a good one actually in middle of town. Owned by EBR Schools
Valley Park Green Space(landfill?)
