I'm tempted. What do room sensors generally go for? This seems like a good deal from my vague memory of reading the WINK thread.

$60-$100 without all the HVAC, occupant sensor and smart vent integration these have.
the quirky spotter SUCKED and the AEON LABS one only halfway works with wink so this could be a slam dunk if it works.

not compatible with my hub so im out. im trying to prevent myself from buying too many products that have their own app.
eta: i take this back. after further research it is compatible.

also just so im reading this right it's basically $100 minimum per room if you consider 1 puck and only 1 vent? Multiple vents in a room would be more.

correct.
and that's the 'preorder discount' price.
i just bought one of each and according to HVAC guys, you wouldn't want a system that could close ALL your vents due to pressure issues that could damage it.
i think the rule of thumb is no more than 30% vents closed at any given time but i really don't understand much about that.
i want to try this in our 1yo room.
bonus is i'm also installing a smart outlet to turn the humidifier on/off depending on what the puck says the humidity is.
but of course, by the time i get it it will be spring and a non issue....

2 months ago i definitely would have been interested in this for one room in our house that gets hotter than others. but i installed a ceiling fan and it's fine now.

I would think this would be better for a room which gets too cold... It can't open the vent more than all the way, so to get one room colder, it would have to kick on the AC and open the vent 100%. Alternatively, if one or two rooms get too cold in the summer (or vice versa), then it could close the vents partially or completely while the AC unit cools the rest of the house.

i would ratehr have a smart A/C air disperser what ever it is. You know the big box that divides the A/C air to go down what duct. This would eliminate the need for multiple vents in a certain room
Plus if one room needs air and no other room does, this would send 100% of the cold air to that room so it would cool down faster. this would also make it to where different parts of your house could be different temperatures.

This is another functionality, but I think I might order a NEST for the new house when we move in. Would love the auto-programming and app.
Will definitely help save us some money, especially when we leave town and forget to shut it off or turn it down (happens far more than it should )

you mean ecobee3

No because I don't want/need Alexa or voice commands at all.
I'm not furthering my "smart home" like you techsters. I just want something that I can control with an app and the NEST seems to do everything I want and very well.

to each his own but the ecobee 3 looks pretty nice with or without using the voice commands.
Of course nothing wrong with the nest.

Man that stuff looks awesome, HOWEVER, will those closed vents cause damage or confuse the shite outta the AC Unit? Feel like it could do weird things to the AC Unit but maybe I'm wrong.
Posted on 3/18/16 at 2:22 pm to DoubleDown
I think that would be most people's main concern.
