So Ive replaced 3 ceiling fans so far and Ive got one to go...well the wiring out of ceiling in this room has black red white and a bare ground...the instructions call to only connect black and white. So the red is just left alone right? Whats it there for?

Do you have two switches in this room. one switch controls red and the other controls the black wire.
In other words this room may have been wired for a fan and a light.

White is neutral, the black and red are hot for the fan and or light. Sounds like you have a spare hot bc you do not have a light kit on your fan.

There is a light kit...and yes there are two switches...one for the light and one for fan. This fan will be controlled by the remote...so I'll just cap the red and disregard then.

I would still tie the fan and light to separate switches. Wouldnt you occasionally light to turn the fan on and the light off ?

That is correct. I have done the same when the fan/light are controlled by a remote.

As an electrician who has installed thousands of ceiling fans, I can honestly say that there are not many products I hate more than goddamn remote control fans.

What's so bad about them? Same basic wiring with a receiver in between. I suppose the receiver can be a bitch to cram up there if there's not enough space. The problem I have with remote control fans is you have to make a choice when it comes to controls.
Our master bedroom has separate switches for the fan and light. When I installed the receiver, I didn't wire it to the light because it would've meant the light could no longer be controlled at the switch. I wish companies would sell kits with a remote and wall panel combo.

Hold the red wire in one hand, flip the switch with the other.
