How much is he getting paid at Jax? Why would he come from the NFL to college? Just wondering..

he's seen the sundresses...he knows what he's missing out on.

I don't know his contract info. However, he has made it clear that he wants the LSU job.

3 Million or so a year.
HE has ties to the LA region. Wife is from here, daughters went or go here, played coached for NOLA.
As evidence of his interest when Saban left he came for an interview while his team was actually in the playoffs.

He played his college fottball at USC...Hell, if Pete Carroll decides to leave, he might want the USC job and we are back to all of this...

That's why he's an intriguing choice (besides being so young). He WAS making a paltry $1.3 or $1.4 million back when we were replacing WVMD. Since then, he negotiated a $17 million dollar contract, that is something like $3.5 to $4.5 per year (or that neighborhood, as I don't remember if it was 4 or 5 years, but I remember the total package).
He's rarely mentioned for job openings, but this is the second time for LSU, so maybe....

He was getting 1.3 mil the last time he showed interest in the LSU job and our coach was getting 1.2.
He's now getting 3 mill and that's what our coach would get.
Why would he leave? B/c he calls Louisiana home. He played and coached in Louisiana. His wife is from Lafayette. His stepdaughter went to LSU. His daughter goes to LSU. He comes to Louisiana every chance he gets. And he knows he's a losing season away from getting fired in the NFL.

He is in the second year of a 3 year 10 mil contract.

Yes, you leave your top 4 team in the AFC because your daughter goes to LSU. LSU will not hire Del Rio because it could conceivably be mid-January before he is even available to coach. It does not even remotely make sense for either party involved.

and? Do you think that Spurrier isn't going to be gone in 5 years, what about Saban. He's shown such great loyalty to one team.
Grow up coaches leave, we'll find new one and move on.

Read the rest of my post idiot. He came for an interview while his team WAS IN THE PLAYOFFS. Good God. I would rather say screw it to this recruiting class(who else are we reallying going to get?) and go after the guy.

Dude has a great staff at Jacksonville right now also that may come along for the ride.

I was just stating the facts..
I want a coach who will be here for a long time, win championships and get the field named after him when he leaves...geez

So who is your choice?

that's another plus to me... ex-college coaches that have done well, and do well in the pros. RB coach is doing a great job with the 2 RB's in the pro, and he coach Bush and White in college. You think he could get Scott and Williams to play at a higher level next year? I do. OC was the Head Coach at Arizona state last year... he was pretty good. Wr's coach, Monkin (or whoever he is) did a pretty good job with the WR's previously at LSU. Tice as on O-line ocach, Shula as the QB coach... I would love to have him on the job to ram it down Bama's throat that they made a mistake every year. This is the guy that I want, Del Rio that is.

If Les Miles leaves on Monday, LSU is not going to wait a month and a half to hire a coach. They just aren't. They aren't going to put the program on hold to wait for a guy that may not even want the job, who has zero college recruiting experience, and is coaching one of the best teams in the NFL, all because he might want to come here because his daughter is taking Management 3200 this year.
I read the rest of your post, poopy-face. Just because he did it before doesn't mean he'll do it again. His team is a legitimate AFC title game contender.

I agree that Spurrier and Saban would not be around a long time...if JDR came in, I would love him..but, I am tired of LSU being a perceived stepping stone..
Posted on 11/29/07 at 11:30 am to rainh2o
I agree. I think JDR would be a guy that would stay here for a while. He wants the job and he is a proven winner. He moved up the coaching ranks in the NFL as fast as anyone that I have seen!

who has zero college recruiting experience,
Woppedy frikkin do. When a guy who was a NFL HC is sitting in your living room showing you his superbowl ring he won coaching a HoF linebacker on one of the best defenses of all time in the NFL, then telling you how he turned the second worst defense in the NFL to the second best in one year, how he played in the NFL for 10 years, how he coached a team to the playoffs twice, and how he knows how to make oyu a first round draft pick I think you would be pretty damn close ot signing too.

They don't have to wait its not hard to talk to the guy and figure out if he's interested.

Again history indicates he would rather be the coach at LSU than coach a playoff caliber NFL team, why would you think that has changed?

Give me a good reason why not?

Since you brought it up, give me a good reason why he would. Not a reason you are guessing, a good reason why he would.
