You hit 14 drivers (max) a round and 30-36 putts. But people just want to pound drivers on the range.

I go one day a week at lunch and just putt. 5-10 footers only. Then spend 30-45 min on Sat mornings doing putting drills. I spend very little time on lag putts or medium range putts.

That's true to an extent, but there is a tremendous amount of statistical value one gets from driving the ball well. There are a lot of lost shots when you drive the ball poorly. I learned that the hard way.

If someone is really good off the tee and really good from 40 yards and in and on the green, then the rest takes care of itself.

Have a decently playable second shot makes a ton of difference for me and most golfers. That first shot can save 1 or 3 extra shots by the green for that reason. But chipping and putting is where I focus most of my game. It's where a bad round can become a good round.

This.

Being a good putter is important, but getting off the tee is almost as important to scoring.

My last 3 rounds are a perfect example. 29, 28 and 31 putts with scores of 82, 84, and 83. All because I'm putting myself in bad positions off the tee.

how many putts i have in a round is a byproduct of poor chipping, not poor putting, for me. I've never practiced putting, and i'm not one to 3 putt very often.

Chipping is what needs the most practice, for me.

I've played rounds with a buddy of mine that always beats me, yet he doesn't hit that much better than me, or putt better than me. When he chips, it's almost automatic he's 1 putting. I routinely take 3 shots to get it in from just off the green. I rarely chip it within 10 feet of the hole. Sure i make a few of those putts, but the vast majority don't go in, and i don't think practicing putting would make that much more go in.
I'd rather have the ability to chip it to within 5 feet of the hole the majority of the time.

I don't disagree with this. I shot 48-38 Saturday because I had a little hitch in my address over the driver on the front. Figured it out on 9 and played 10 solid holes. I'm an ok driver of the ball, an ok irons player, but I am pretty good in wedge, chipping and putting the ball (play to a 6).

I hit a bad drive and as long as it's in play, I know I have a chance.
